Harry Potter Thursday: Would you want to be a Parseltongue?

Harry Potter Thursday is a weekly meme created by Uncorked Thoughts.

I have never been the biggest fan of snakes. I don't know why, but I've always had some kind of fear or discomfort regarding them. I've been trying to work past this by approaching them at petting zoos and the like, but I still get a bit unnerved in their presence.

Knowing that, I thought that the answer to this week's prompt would be simple. I mean, I dislike being around snakes, so what would the use be in being able to talk to them?

After thinking about it and watching the above scene, when Harry first meets the Brazilian Boa Constrictor and talks to it, I had to think again. Maybe it would actually be cool to talk to a snake. I doubt they'd all be pleasant because really, what species is 100% nice all the time? I bet it would help me get over my fear if I were able to talk to them and chat them up a bit, maybe understand what they're like beyond their appearance.

My final answer is yes, I would want to be a Parseltongue. I'm not sure I'd let too many people know about it, though, considering the prejudice there is against those that can.

  1. Agh, I am TERRIFIED of snakes. (Although I'm apparently a Slytherin. XD) I think it's kind of healthy to be scared of things that can kill you though?! I mean, pythons are different, but stiiiill. I have petted a snake once and I hated the texture of them too. *shudders*
But omg that clip was ADORABLE. I've never seen the Harry Potter movies so I really enjoyed watching that. xD (It's on my to-do list!)

  2. Oh, you need to see them. I seem to remember you just finished the book series, right? The movies are enjoyable. :) The first two are the best and then the rest you sort of need to separate them from the books because they're still really good, but not the best adaptations.
